Scanning a Product Using the Mobile App
This guide explains how to scan a product using the built-in scanner feature in our mobile app. This functionality allows for quick and accurate capture of product data using your device’s camera, enhancing your workflow efficiency.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prerequisites
Before using the barcode scanner, ensure that your products have barcode numbers assigned to them. The Workshop Software mobile app requires these barcodes for scanning.
Searchable Fields
When entering a product into Workshop Software, you can use any of the following three fields to add a product to an invoice:
Item Code
Description
Searchable Tag
Note: The Searchable Tag does not appear on job cards, invoices, or stock orders, making it an ideal field for holding barcode details.
Adding a Barcode as a Searchable Tag
Search for the Product:
Open your Workshop Software account and navigate to the Product List.
Locate the product you want to add a barcode to. If the product does not exist, you can create a new one
Edit Product Details:
Open the Product Details page.
In the Searchable Tag field, enter the product’s barcode.
Save Changes:
Click Save to apply the changes. The product can now be easily found using the barcode scanner in the mobile app during future searches.
The first time you use the scanner, the app will request access to your device’s camera. Tap Allow when prompted. If you need to enable it manually, follow these steps:
iOS:
Go to Settings > Workshop Software App > Camera > Toggle On.
Android:
Go to Settings > Apps > Workshop Software App > Permissions > Camera > Enable.
