Time and customer management in your Auto Repair Shop is of paramount importance. Ensuring that you are working on paid jobs and knowing the amount of work you are doing as unapplied time or internal work is very important to the management of your workshop.
In Workshop Software, we’ve made this process super simple.
All you need to do is update a simple switch on the Job Card / Invoice and you’re done.
If you want to generally track unapplied time, it might be a good idea to create a Customer called something like “Internal” or “Unapplied Time”, or you could get more specific and create a few customers depending on the type of internal work such as “Unapplied Time”, “Cleaning”, “Maintenance” etc. You can be as general or specific as you like.
Another good idea is to have a Job Card open for a period of time that is for “Unapplied Time”. That way, each of your technicians can clock on and clock off this job card whenever they are not working on a customers vehicle. This is so important for Workshop management and ensuring that your effective charge out rate is as high as possible.
The proper management of your technicians time can be a great way to improve productivity and therefore profit. Utilising this single feature in your workshop could be the difference between a good month and a poor one. Working hard on reducing Unapplied time can be something that your whole team can be motivated to achieve.
You also need easily accessible reports to know what’s going on. Wouldn’t it be great to know the invoices that were for unapplied time and the invoices that were charged to customers? You’ll then be able to see the ratio of Internal Work compared to charged work which can greatly help in your workshop management.
For an understanding of how you might be able to handle Internal Work more effectively, check out this short video:
